As a signatory of the U.S. Food Waste Pact, you are encouraged to report your food waste data to the Pact on an annual basis. The reporting process is managed by ReFED, and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to David Ly at [email protected].

Why submit data?

Data reporting is a key component of the “Target, Measure, Act” framework. By submitting data, the Pact is able to provide signatories with insights about where food waste is happening in their operations, how they benchmark against their peers, as well as recommend high ROI solutions. These insights allow signatories to target food waste hotspots and act accordingly to reduce food waste in their operations.

How does the Pact use this data?

The U.S. Food Waste Pact partners with leading businesses to reduce food waste nationwide. By contributing data, signatories help drive industry-wide progress while gaining valuable insights for their own operations.

1. Data Collection & Analysis:

Businesses submit their food waste data, which is anonymized and combined to create a national overview. Once enough data is gathered to reflect the market, a report is published annually, highlighting industry trends and signatory contributions.

2. Setting Priorities:

The aggregated data reveals key areas where food waste reduction can make the biggest impact. This helps focus efforts where they’ll be most effective, ensuring that contributions lead to meaningful change.

3. Tailored Insights:

Each signatory receives a report comparing their performance to industry benchmarks, along with specific recommendations to further reduce waste and enhance sustainability.

4. Broader Impact:

Signatory data also contributes to the ReFED Insights Engine, spreading valuable knowledge across the industry and supporting broader efforts to cut food waste.
