Food Waste Reduction Strategies

  • Established Stop Food Waste Day in 2017 as an international day of action to raise awareness of the social and environmental impacts of food waste. This year marks its 10th anniversary, and since its inception we have supported its annual celebration, reaching 210 million people globally in 2025.

  • Linking an element of the bonus plan of executive directors and senior management to their food waste prevention and reduction efforts, which helped drive an 11% year-on-year food waste reduction in 2025.

  • Tracking and measuring food waste through their proprietary Waste Not 2.0 tablet tool, implementing tracking at over 10,000 sites around the world as of 2025.

  • Training chefs and associates through the Global Culinary Forum and North American Culinary Council to plan, cook, and serve with food waste prevention and other sustainable practices in mind.

  • Partnering with national and local food recovery organizations to donate more than 3.1 million meals globally in 2025.
