Advancing Toward Zero Waste to Landfill: UNFI is working toward a goal of achieving zero waste to landfill across its distribution center network by 2030. As diversion rates continue to improve, we are increasingly focused on solutions that help distribution centers address their unique waste streams, operational challenges, and diversion opportunities.
Recovering Surplus Food: UNFI works with food banks, hunger-relief organizations, suppliers, and customers to recover and donate safe, surplus food, helping strengthen food access while reducing waste.
Using Data and Local Engagement to Reduce Waste: UNFI combines waste audits, facility-level reporting, and operational insights to help teams identify opportunities for waste reduction and diversion.
